MISOO FILAN

''"HOPES AND FEARS IN PAINT"''

Misoo Filan is a painter whose work is intensely personal and narrative, emotional self-portraits expressing her hopes and fears as she transitions from single woman to married life and motherhood. She was born in the Bronx, but raised in Korea, returning to the US at age 18. She is currently an MFA student in FAU's three year master's program, and had her work on display at the recent FAU / MFA "Continuum "exhibition at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, along with other students and alumni. Her work was also shown as part of "Tap Into Miniature," a group exhibit at The Art Place Wynwood in Miami. Many of her works deal with issues of illness, loss and fear, and are filled with bunnies and other imaginary animals. Her most recent work is in two series, ‘Raped doll series’ and ‘Deformed baby series’ reflecting her feelings as a mother and a woman.

We'll talk about the role that personal experience plays in contemporary art, and about career development and related issues.
