''"DRAWING LINES - MAKING SPACE"''

Henning Haupt is a German painter and educator, with a studio in FAT Village, in Fort Lauderdale. His work explores spatial qualities within drawings, paintings and three-dimensional installations in a close relation to color materials and application techniques.

The drawings explore spatial compositions within gestural marks, the paintings visual color-spaces, both in a close relation to color materials and application techniques. Three-dimensional objects and installations—color-space constructions—are generated out of paintings developing an inseparable entity out of the visual, painted and the architectural, built space.

The production process itself is the focus of Haupt’s artistic endeavor. The results hint to something intangible within the painted color space. Yet they are demonstrations of the relationship between a thought and its physical execution in a material. The works are inviting the audience to share the pleasure of drawing and painting, to dive into form, space and atmosphere and to decipher thoughts and processes.

Haupt’s recent solo-shows and installations are “Drawing Lines – Making Space” at Coral Springs Museum of Art 2014, “The Return of the Magenta” shown at The Projects, Fort Lauderdale 2012 and Young at Art Museum, Davie 2013. Haupt was awarded with the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship in the Visual Arts in 2013 as exhibited in “Who am I to you?”, 2013 at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. Together with students he implemented the painting on walls and ceiling of “The Tunnel” in the city parking garage between First and Second Avenues in Fort Lauderdale in spring of 2014. It was selected as the best public art 2014 in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach by Broward Palm Beach New Times. One of his large pieces can currently be seen at the 63rd Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition, Boca Raton Museum of Art.

With an academic and practical background in art and in architecture Haupt teaches at the Florida Atlantic University classes on Color, Material and Space and Architectural Design Studios. Previous he taught at the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany

Haupt received a Diploma of Architecture from the Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany, and undertook postgraduate studies in the Masters Program at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He completed his praxis-based Ph.D. on artistic design strategies titled “Color Experiments—Integration of painted color spaces in an architectural design process” in 2008.
