''"EXPLORATIONS OF WOMEN’S ISSUES, MIGRATION AND IDENTITY THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY, PHOTO COLLAGES, AND MULTIMEDIA INSTALLATIONS" ''

Marina Font uses photographs of objects and the female body, combined with yarn, embroidery, crochet and found objects, to explore “the mysteries and intricate secrets of the self... opening a dialog between biology and psychology, our social and private persona”.

Marina has become well known in Miami and beyond for her photographs of objects “that evoke a particular place or personal history to explore ideas about identity, gender, territory, language and memory.” Her special emphasis on “the lives of women, as keepers of our culture”, and of the immigrant experience, stemming from her moving from her home in Argentina to Miami, have led to a growing body of work exploring memory, womanhood and the unconscious. Her most recent work, on display last spring in “Dark Continents” at the Dina Mitrani Gallery in Wynwood, has brought increased attention to her work. She explains, “I grew up in a patriarchal society, strongly influenced by psychoanalysis and Freud’s writings, and have always been disturbed by Freud’s reference to women’s sexuality as ‘Dark Continents”. She is “inspired by the Modernist’s further exploration of the unconscious... to unveil metaphorically the truth beneath our surface...the complex relationship between reality and the memory that lives within.”

Born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1970, Marina Font studied design, sculpture, and photography at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Martin Malharro, Argentina. She moved to the United States in 1996.
